One year ago today I was sitting at work when I received a text from a friend that said, “Charlie Kirk was shot.” At first, I thought it was some sort of cruel joke – I felt similar to when I had heard the news that Kobe Bryant had died in a helicopter accident in 2020 – it just seemed too improbable and strange.
Sadly, in both cases, it was real. On September 10th, 2025, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed. And on September 10th, 2025, I had planned to do a podcast interview with Dr. Robert P. George, a professor at Princeton University. We planned on discussing his newest book, Seeking Truth and Speaking Truth: Law and Morality in Our Cultural Moment – the book was about exactly what it sounded like. And in a providential way, regardless of whether Charlie Kirk was assassinated that day, we would have been talking about the same thing: seeking truth and speaking truth.
